Classic James Bond Box Office Hits: 10 Films That Made the Most Money

For the last 50 years, classic James Bond films have been delighting movie audiences – and earning millions upon millions of dollars at the box office worldwide. Twenty-three films have been released with six different actors playing the role of 007, the British secret agent, including Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.

According to The NumbersBusiness Insider, and 007James, these are the James Bond movies that pulled in the most money worldwide or domestically at the box office:

“Skyfall” (2012)

In this highest-grossing movie, Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. Whilst MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost. Total worldwide gross: over $1.1 billion.

“Casino Royale” (2006)

Daniel Craig was the first actor to play James Bond who was younger than the series itself (Craig was 38 when the movie was released, while the Bond movie series was 44 years old). This and the first Bond movie, "Dr. No," are the only ones that don’t have naked women dancing in the opening title sequence. Total domestic gross: $594.2 million.

“Quantum of Solace” (2008)

For the first time in the series, the title song was performed as a duet. The song, "Another Way to Die," was recorded by Jack White and Alicia Keys. Total domestic gross: $591.6 million.

“Die Another Day” (2002)

Halle Berry became the first Academy Award winner to be a leading Bond girl. It also is the first time James Bond is shown with a beard, as opposed to his signature clean-shaven look. Total domestic gross: $432 million.

“The World Is Not Enough” (1999)

Critics didn't feel any on-screen chemistry between Bond girl Denise Richards and Pierce Brosnan, earning Richards a Razzie award for Worst Supporting Actress and the duo a nomination for Worst Onscreen Couple. Total domestic gross: $361.8 million.

“GoldenEye” (1995)

This is the first time Pierce Brosnan played the role of James Bond. Total domestic gross: $356 million.

“Tomorrow Never Dies” (1997)

Terri Hatcher, who plays Paris Carver in the film, says she accepted the role to fulfill the dream of her then-husband, Jon Tenney, to be married to a Bond girl. Total domestic gross: $339 million.

“Moonraker” (1979)

This was the third James Bond novel but the 11th movie released in the series. Total domestic gross: $210.3 million.

“Octopussy” (1983)

Maud Adams, who plays Octopussy, was featured in an earlier Bond film, "The Man with a Golden Gun," as a different character who was killed off. The movie was also released the same year as rival Bond flick, "Never Say Never Again," which featured the return of Sean Connery. Total domestic gross: $187.5 million.

“License to Kill” (1989)

This is the second, and final, movie in which Timothy Dalton played James Bond. Total domestic gross: $156.2 million.
