A sampling of Bushmaster reviews from gun owners reveals public perceptions about Bushmaster firearms.

“Runs like a dream”

Suzanne Wiley, a blogger with The Shooter’s Log, is a big fan of Bushmaster’s AR-15 and other Bushmaster rifles. “The black rifle community is grumpy lately with Bushmaster,” she writes. “Once one of the top contenders in the AR-15 market, many so-called black rifle experts say quality has gone downhill. Both sides can yell ‘Tastes great, less filling’ until they are blue in the face. However, the Bushmasters I have experience with run like a dream all day in the hot and dusty Texas heat with zero malfunctions.”

“Superb and more personalized rifle”

Jeff Compoc wrote a glowing review of Bushmaster’s .308 version of its highly regarded Optics Ready Carbine on GunBlog.com: “Want a little more UMPH or a little bit of a longer reach than what the .223/5.56 NATO in the standard AR-15 is able to deliver? While keeping the classic profile of the AR-15, Bushmaster has released a .308 version of their popular ORC (Optics Ready Carbine) specifically for those wanting that longer reach and that more powerful punch. I was excited to get this entry-level AR-10, expecting it was going to be a good starter .308 rifle, and after doing the review, I’m more anxious to develop/upgrade it to become a superb and more personalized rifle.”

“This is a great weapon”

A writer from the Gormogons blog discussed one ironic problem with the Bushmaster XM-15 and associated Bushmaster rifles in its review.

“The Bushmaster has the same trigger, grip, buttons, switches, doodads and geegaws that any other properly made AR-15 has. This is basically the problem: the Bushmaster AR-15s are so good that they are no different than any other well-made AR-15. Now, is that the Bushmaster or the design of the AR-15 overall? Frankly, it is a bit of both. Yes, the AR-15 is the result of a genius, and while a lot of rifle shooters make fun of the AR-15 as being a gimmick or a toy, you can bet they never fired a well-made one. And let us point out to our new-to-gun readers that the AR-15 is not a rifle: it is a platform. If there is something you don’t like about the AR-15, you can quickly change it until you do. Beyond that, this is a great weapon. The recoil is solid for a .223, but that is the trade-off with the lighter weight.”

Not every Bushmaster review is favorable. Bushmaster has its critics or gun owners who aren’t as enamored with its products. The Truth About Guns blog gave the Bushmaster ACR a mixed three-star review, knocking it for lack of customization among other issues. The ACR is “heavy. Simple to shoot. Simple to configure. Simple to maintain. Lacks the beloved customization options commonly found on the AR platform,” the reviewer writes.
