Gay marriage is one of the most hotly contested personal and political issues among Christians today. Some Christians believe the Bible is very clear on God’s intention that marriage is between a man and a woman. Other Christians believe the Bible leaves room for acceptance of gay marriage.
According to a study by the Public Religion Research Institute, about 60 percent of Catholic Christians are in favor of gay marriage. That is in line with 55 percent of the general American population who support gay marriage.
Some Bible passages inform the marriage of a man and woman, but the Bible does not record any incidents of gay marriage.

The group Christian Gays pointed out that while there are passages that negatively reference homosexuality, “at no point in the Gospel narrative does Jesus condemn homosexuality.”
Some argue that, since marriage is the only Biblically acceptable place for sex, then gay marriage is appropriate.
Justin Lee, executive director of the Gay Christian Network said “God blesses same-sex marriages.” He takes a conservative view that sex should be reserved for marriage. He argues the Bible does not outline homosexual sex as sinful, but rather describes non-marital sex as sinful.
