Hope is knowing there’s something better within reach, according to Christian evangelist Beth Moore. Here are 10 memorable statements from her:

SPECIAL: Prayer Changes Your Brain in 4 Amazing Ways

1. Addressing God on her Living Proof Ministries blog in a post about memories good and bad: “I want to say that You have been right all along. And that life is such a gift. And it is precious. And passes with such haste. What we can hope is that there would be no waste. And, to those of us who love You, who are called according to Your purpose, You have promised that to be true.”

2. In a video message on her blog, discussing a feature story on suicide nets on Golden Gate Bridge and a cop’s observation that drivers will sometimes yell, “Jump,” Moore said: “At no time should the message to you be: ‘Just go ahead and destroy your life.’ That is not hope. Your life is valuable. ... I just want to say to you, this is true even if you do not know Jesus Christ as your personal savior. If you are a Christian or not, your life is valuable to God.”

3. In an interview apparently conducted online, she tells Crossmap.com what she’d tell someone wrestling with despair: “Grieve your loss, wrestle it out and throw a spiritual fit. But through those tears, allow the Word to reside in you. ... Even when we think we'll never get over this, if we stay faithful God promises we'll reap a harvest of joy. He'll never forsake us (Heb 13:5). That's why we've got to know His Word – so when our feelings don't match what we know to be true, we can still put one foot in front of the other.”

4. In an article in Christianity Today, Moore wrote about hope: “Right here on this cold, hard orb, the paralyzing power of sin is unhinged, and we, the fallen, can get back up. News doesn’t get any better unless it glistens in the ink of Luke 4:18, where glorious release reverberates for the “oppressed” – the bruised, the broken, the crushed.”

5. In an interview with Today’s Christian Woman in 2005, Moore said: “Because even when we can't diagnose our problems, God's Word can bring us healing and wholeness. It wasn't until I fell in love with Jesus through his Word that the chains of sin began dropping off me.”

6. In a post on her blog, Moore wrote: “All of us have opportunities and they are as diverse as the people trying to leave their footprints in the loose dust of this passing planet.”

7. In her book of devotions, “Whispers of Hope,” Moore compares hope to a rope: “Notice the word ‘hope” (in Psalm 62, verse 5). The Hebrew term literally means “a cord, as an attachment.’ Every one of us is hanging on to something or someone for security. ... if it’s someone or something other than God alone, you’re hanging on by a thread – the wrong thread.”

8. Later on in “Whispers of Hope,” she talks about hope being made flesh in Jesus: “The birth of Hope – God, clothed in seven pounds of peeling, pink infant flesh. Perfection wrapped in innocence.”

9. Those who accept Jesus are living embodiments of hope, she says in “Whispers”: “People are desperately searching for signs of life. ... We represent hope to people who may have given up on finding real life. We are stones rolled away, giving them a glance into the empty tomb.”

10. Moore goes on to say in the book: “People in your workplace and neighborhood are dying for hope. Dying to know there’s a future. Dying to know there’s a God ... and that He’s for them, not against them.”
