Although she was known as a talented actress, Ava Gardner did not have any luck when it came to Hollywood's major acting awards. Although nominated for an Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, and a number of other national and international honors, she never walked the stage as a winner.

Here's a look at how Gardner fared when it came to honoring her for her craft:

1. Academy Awards
Gardner received a single nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. It was for her starring role in the 1953 film, "Mogambo," where she portrayed "Eloise "Honey Bear" Kelly.

Unfortunately, Gardner's performance was overshadowed by the performance of her co-star, Grace Kelly, who was also nominated for her performance in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role category.

Both actresses lost, with Gardner being bested by Audrey Hepburn for her role in "Roman Holiday," and Kelly falling to Donna Reed, who won for her performance in "From Here to Eternity."

2. Golden Globe Awards
Eleven years after her Oscar nomination, Gardner picked up her only Golden Globe Award nomination. This came in the Best Motion Picture Actress – Drama category for her performance as Maxine Faulk in 1964's "The Night of the Iguana."

Although it was another strong performance by Gardner, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association ultimately awarded the Golden Globe to Anne Bancroft for her performance in "The Pumpkin Eater."

3. Other Awards
Although she did not win the Golden Globe Award for "The Night of the Iguana," she did win a lesser award. She claimed the Best Actress award from the San Sebastian International Film Festival.

She was also nominated for other awards during her career, including a New York Film Critics Circle Award for "Mogambo," and three BAFTA awards as best foreign actress for "The Night of the Iguana," as well as 1956's "Bhowani Junction" and 1959's "On the Beach."

4. Walk of Fame
Another coveted honor that Gardner received was a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Her star, given to her for her career in motion pictures, is located at 1560 Vine Street and was awarded to her on Feb. 8, 1960.
