According to WebMD, there are more than 100 types of arthritis and the condition "affects more than 46 million U.S. adults — a number that's expected to increase to 67 million adults by the year 2030." Here are six tips for arthritis sufferers on how to reverse the condition:

1. Supplement with Omega-3 fats Omega-3 fats act as a natural anti-inflammatory agent and they can be found in fish, fish oil and krill oil. Mercola reports Omega-3's are "known to produce compounds called resolvins and protectins, which help quell inflammation before it can do too much damage to your tissues. Several studies have been published on the remarkable effectiveness of the animal-based omega-3 fat krill oil in combating inflammation-related disorders, including arthritis."

2. There are additional supplements with natural anti-inflammatory properties. Willow bark, which contains salicin, the key chemical ingredient found in aspirin is also rich in polyphenols and flavonoids. In addition, the herb Boswellia, also called Indian Frankincense, has strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. A 2008 study in India, found that a Boswellia supplement called 5-Loxin "significantly improved OA pain and function within seven days and slowed cartilage damage after 3 months," reports Arthritis Today.

4. Livestrong reports that certain foods can help to reverse rheumatoid arthritis. For example, "The University of Michigan Health System notes that people who consumed 8 oz. of cherries daily for a period of several weeks reported significant changes in their pain levels and a reduction of stiffness, pain and inflammation." Ginger, pineapple, which contains an beneficial enzyme called bromelain, and the spice turmeric also reduce pain and inflammation.

5. Be aware of food allergies that may be contributing to the development and symptoms of arthritis. "As far as arthritis is concerned, the most common suspects are grains and dairy products, followed by pork, beef and eggs," reports Patrick Holford, BSc, DipION, FBANT, NTCRP.

6. Get fit and stay fit - Stretching, exercising and maintaining a healthy weight are significant ways to prevent arthritis. According to the May Clinic, exercise can help to restore function by increasing strength and flexibility, reducing joint pain and combating fatigue. "Though you might think exercise will aggravate your joint pain and stiffness, that's not the case. Lack of exercise actually can make your joints even more painful and stiff. That's because keeping your muscles and surrounding tissue strong is crucial to maintaining support for your bones. Not exercising weakens those supporting muscles, creating more stress on your joints."
