The American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) is known for its multiple perks and benefits that come with membership, and things just got a whole lot easier with the AARP Now app.

The nonprofit, members-only organization has roots planted in positive social change and assisting the elderly by providing resources and advice on healthcare, employment, and income security.

At the same time, AARP also offers its members numerous discounts and benefits ranging from travel to food and entertainment, according to its website.

The AARP Now app was launched to streamline its services and allow members to manage their accounts and directly access their benefits.

Like any app, there are pros and cons, but here are six perks of the AARP Now app, as explained by the organization:

1. Digital card and membership — In a move towards convenience, the app allows members to access and manage their accounts from their phones.

2. Explore events — Through the AARP Now app, members can stay up-to-date on all the events taking place in their communities, and all at the tips of their fingers. The app also allows users to register for these events directly from their phones.

3. Deals — Special offers available to AARP members are added monthly, and now app users can browse for benefits and discounts specifically in their neighborhood, from their phones.

5. Direct access to news — AARP provides members access to the latest news and now AARP Now app users can stay informed by catching up on breaking news in minutes from their phones.

6. Test the waters before joining — Non-members can use the app to get a feel of what AARP offers and, if they decide membership is for them, they can join through the AARP Now app.
