No prisoners is House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s war cry on President Trump’s efforts to obtain federal monies for a southern border wall. She has even had the audacity to write the president to request he postpone his State of the Union speech due to the partial government shutdown. Pelosi and Trump are at an impasse.

There is no question the president and Pelosi do not see eye to eye on much of anything. It has become a personal feud at the expense of the American people.

Who is really to blame? Pelosi’s concerns that Trump and Congress could not be properly protected at the State of the Union was quickly shot down by Homeland Security and the Secret Service.

Trump retaliated by withholding a government plane for her planned junket overseas proclaiming she should stay in Washington to negotiate an end to the shutdown. Pelosi had already invited the president to the House Chamber on the 13th day of the lingering shutdown. She is trying to shatter presidential norms.

Pelosi knows the power of such a speech covered by the world media. An estimated 46 million Americans will watch it on television. She also realizes that such an address in the middle of the government shutdown will inevitably produce a black eye for her. Trump inevitably will call her out.

Democrats are presently brimming with confidence. Polls show most Americans blame Trump for the shutdown. Yet Trump is the only party calling for a compromise. Pelosi has offered no such tactic and remains firmly entrenched in her resistance to any funds for the wall proposal.

Trump is sure to bring up the fact that Democratic lawmakers were in Puerto Rico sunning with various lobbyists at an exclusive resort during this crisis. Her stance is surely going to be perceived by many Americans after Trump’s speech as petty and vindictive. If Democrats continue with this resistance to any negotiation, sooner than later most Americans will turn against them.

Pelosi is in a tight spot and Trump knows it. He has stayed in the White House while Pelosi vacationed In Hawaii during the shutdown.

Already many citizens in the country are coming to realize Pelosi cares more about hurting Trump than she does about finding a compromise. She must find a way to end the shutdown and do what is best for the country.
