The Democrats are facing the midterms without a solid candidate for president. It would be the ideal situation for a strong consensus person with presidential aspirations to get out front for others seeking re-election or first time aspirations.

No such role model exists in the Democratic Party. At this critical point in time, political retreads and far left political personalities rule the depleted ranks.

Take for instance longtime party faithful, former Vice President Joe Biden. He will be touring the country in the next few months pounding the rubber chicken circuit endorsing any midterm candidate who will have him. Joe needs supporters and he knows it.

The truth of the matter is this; Joe is anxious to get his name back into the news. He has a hankering to throw his hat into the 2020 presidential race and needs to get some IOU commitments from Senate and House politicians.

This week the 75-year-old was campaigning in Pennsylvania for Democratic House candidate Conor Lamb. She has aspirations of defeating the Republican this fall in a heavily conservative district. Her apparent strategy is to be photographed with Joe Biden to bolster those chances.

There appears to be a growing nostalgia in the air for reintroducing the forgotten moderates of the Democratic Party. As President Trump’s national approval ratings continue to move north of the 50 percent mark, fear is beginning to grow underneath all the smiles and gestures of confidence.

America is growing tired of the politically correct. From the kneeling of NFL players to last Sunday’s liberal extravaganza at the Oscar ceremony, the country is tired of the hatred of the far left. Joe Biden represents a bygone era of cooperation and civility that seems to have disappeared under a flurry of 24/7 hatred for Trump the man.

As the economy continues to soar and unemployment hits record lows, it is not enough to use Trump as a one-issue reason for high political office. The country has moved on and become more comfortable with Trump’s style and forceful leadership.

That is a recognized fact behind closed doors in Washington circles, but has not become viral. Joe Biden, the seasoned political veteran, is out front appealing early to what he perceives as a trend toward the middle.

The consummate politician knows the road ahead is paved with far left liberals eager to display their ideas of what America should be. Joe may be the first to envision an electorate that is more concerned about food on the table than the hateful and continuous oratory toward a man many think is responsible for these better times.

Democrats grow more vulnerable by the day as the issues that concern Americans are met head on by the bombastic likes of President Trump. What once was a whisper when acknowledging support for the billionaire real estate mogul is now an open acclimation by many and growing by the day.

The trend is an open invitation for possible moderates who have yet to test the political waters. They could be pleasantly surprised by thinking-Democrats looking at the latest numbers.

Since Barack Obama was inaugurated Jan. 20, 2008, the following has occurred to the Democratic Party:

  • More than 1000 seats have been lost from the presidency to statewide offices

  • The House majority was lost in 2010

  • The Senate majority was lost in 2014

  • The presidency was lost in 2016

  • The Supreme Court will be solidly conservative for at least the next 30 years

  • Donald Trump is filling federal judgeships for another 2-6 years

Joe Biden may not be the best representative to turn the tide, but he is the first to recognize some ugly realities the party must face. Moving further left is catastrophic for a national party virtually on life support from political power.

Old Joe will be facing the likes of ultra-far left liberals Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., and Sen. Karmala Harris, D-Calif.  For the win-starved Democrats, there is even a more left turn with 77-year-old socialist Bernie Sanders.

The political scenario for 2020 could very well be a rehash of the 1972 presidential election. The very liberal George McGovern was crushed by Richard Nixon. Nixon wasn’t particularly a consensus candidate by looking at the final ballot count, but the Democrats put up a fashionable candidate rather than a candidate who could win.

The far left is well financed. Their candidates can depend on the likes of George Soros, the limousine elite and Hollywood for millions in campaign donations. But is that the mainstream of America they are dealing with in 2020?

How many states will have open arms for the above liberal Democratic candidates past a few of the obvious such as New York and California? Joe Biden is the first to recognize that fact.

As the Democratic Party shows no indication of moving anywhere but further left, is the ghost of George McGovern on their political horizon. Can the party faithful survive at the pace they are going left?

The party needs to hear differing voices from the rash statements and political rhetoric being produced presently. The whispers have stated at the highest echelons of the party and the words are ominous; the Democrats are out of step with mainstream America. Perhaps some of the more level-headed amongst them saw the latest sign with an Oscar ceremony that had 20 percent less viewers than the year before.
