We are represented by the most improbable winner of a presidential election since Harry Truman in 1948. Unlike previous leaders, he has never been a professional politician, rather he is someone coming directly from the private sector, arriving in Washington, D.C. — beholden to no one.
Many detest him personally, but they have never met him. His aggressive and abrasive demeanor repulse a portion of our people, and his unconventional style rattles many career lawmakers, career bureaucrats, and lobbyists.
But to his diehard supporters, Donald J. Trump is a godsend for this country.
In 27 months as our president he has overseen a booming economy, a record stock market and some of the lowest unemployment figures in the history of records being kept.
Those who hate him in the mainstream media and the millions stung by Hillary Clinton’s defeat will never acknowledge his remarkable feats — no matter how high the bar is raised.
His latest endeavor, like so many others in this history-making presidency, is yet another chapter of unconventional style defying logic and past behavior by our presidents.
From one media account to the next, the story can vary as much as this president’s thinking. One day he is accused of destroying the NATO alliance, the next he is holding hands with the prime minister of Great Britain and having tea with the queen.
How can one person correctly evaluate this complicated billionaire?
The answer is, no one can.
One moment he is announcing his nomination for a new Supreme Court Justice in the sanctity of the White House and the next he’s at a highly partisan political rally in Fargo, North Dakota.
He is a man of remarkable energy at the age of 70 and it seems as though he never stops.
Trump has a sterling record of keeping campaign promises. During the campaign, he presented his list of top Supreme Court candidates. He has not let his supporters down and followed that outline to the tee. To many conservative’s delight, he is right of their beloved Ronald Reagan.
For those conservatives who voted for Donald Trump because of the Supreme Court, congratulations — You've been vindicated. It would have been a very different political landscape had his opponent Hillary Clinton won the presidency.
Last week his first Supreme Court Justice, Neil Gorsuch, was the deciding vote in two major decisions; The National Institute of Family Life Advocates v. Becerra, in which the high court ruled that the state of California cannot force crisis pregnancy centers to advertise access to abortion to their clients, and Janus v. AFSCME where the court ruled that public workers cannot be forced pay union dues to support public policies with which they fundamentally disagree.
These were both 5 to 4 rulings in which Justice Gorsuch was the deciding factor.
Both reinforced First Amendment freedoms of all Americans.
With Trump’s second Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Cavanaugh as Justice Anthony Kennedy’s replacement, a former swing vote will likely be far more conservative and eager to interpret the Constitution literally.
It has become the ongoing nightmare of liberals and the far left. Their haven for producing the results they seek has been the judicial level. That is evaporating before their very eyes and there is basically nothing they can do to stop it.
In eight short years, the Democrats have lost the Senate, House, and the presidency.
Now their bastion of hope and strength for their political agenda is about to disappear in a Senate vote most insiders in Washington, D.C. anticipate as a slam dunk.
These are hard times for the hard left. They are beginning to realize that stiff resistance at the level they have performed is fruitless. It is still indeed the people of the United States that have the final say at the ballot box.
