We just learned a great life lesson: If you wait long enough, a leader's penchant for arrogance and stupidity eventually will show itself, exposed by unfolding events.

And so it is that President Joe Biden is doing the unthinkable: he is building The Wall. The border wall that he and legions of other sanctimonious, dimwit Democrats decried as racist and xenophobic and inhumane when President Donald Trump was building it.

On Wednesday, the Biden administration quietly revealed that it is building a wall on the Texas-Mexico border across 21 counties of Texas in the Rio Grande valley, where almost a quarter of a million illegal immigrants have crossed into the U.S. this fiscal year.

Is life weird or what? Only months ago, the Biden bunch was proudly selling off leftover materials from the Trump wall after killing that project on Biden's first day in office. Here's how The Associated Press addressed it:

"During the Trump administration, about 450 miles of barriers were built along the southwest border between 2017 and January 2021. ... The DHS decision on Wednesday contrasts the Biden administration's posturing when a proclamation to end the construction on Jan. 20, 2021 stated 'building a massive wall that spans the entire southern border is not a serious policy solution.'"

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas may be the most feckless member of a Biden team where the competition for that title is intense. His official statement declares: "There is presently an acute and immediate need to construct physical barriers and roads in the vicinity of the border of the United States in order to prevent unlawful entries into the United States in the project areas."

Now he tells us.

Since Biden took office on Jan. 20, 2021, illegal border crossings — at fewer than half a million in the last year of President Trump — jumped to six million in three years. In fiscal year 2021, 1.73 million illegal immigrants entered the U.S.; in FY 2022, 2.37 million — the only time we ever cleared the 2-million mark.

And now, for FY 2023 ended Sept. 30, the total is somewhere above 2 million, CBS News reports. This is alarming: some 70% of the illegal immigrants in FY 2022 were single adults, an army of several MILLION military-age men, violating the law and crossing into our country without penalty or consequence.

To shine a light on this crisis, Elon Musk, the billionaire CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, just visited Eagle Pass, Texas, where, in just two days, 7,500 illegal migrants had flooded the town of 28,000. You can hear more on this on the new episode of my podcast, "What's Bugging Me."

On the 15-minute video Musk posted, Rep. Tony Gonzalez, R-Texas, tells Musk about interviewing an asylum seeker, a young man who insisted he had never been in prison yet had gang tattoos. He had inked teardrops on his face.

Musk, fascinated: "A teardrop is when you kill someone. And then you wear it out of pride. You're actually happy that you've killed someone, and you want people to know it." "Right," the congressman confirms.

Sadly, Eagle Pass is left out of the new DHS plan. The construction will start in Starr County, part of the 21-county Rio Grande Valley Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol. Eagle Pass lies in Maverick County, part of the Del Rio Sector.

A Trump border wall was under construction in Maverick County, but, under Biden, at the order of the Defense Department, "all border barrier construction projects have been canceled," says a notice from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The DHS has been working with the Department of the Interior to determine the scope of "remediation work."

That is four government agencies with a hand in this, all trying to undo the effort to build the barrier, and protect any damage to the environment. Sigh.

The crisis at the Texas border is so bad that DHS has waived 26 federal laws to let construction begin. This includes the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, National Historic Preservation Act, Noise Control Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and on and on.

This is a hilarious: In having to embrace the Trump Wall, President Biden angers millions of open-borders liberals; and in actually starting to build even just one section of it, he now also is miffing millions of greenie liberals at the same time. A woke twofer.

Environmentalists already are squawking about it. The wall plan "will bulldoze an impermeable barrier straight through the heart of that habitat. It will stop wildlife migrations dead in their tracks," a spokesperson for the Center for Biological Diversity told the AP.

Here's hoping the Democrats might realize that if a border wall is now worth "Building Back Better" in Starr County, this applies elsewhere, too, including Eagle Pass.
