When making decisions about an important issue facing our country, knowing the facts are more important than emotions; hopefully the following points will add balance to the discussion on immigration.
The Huffington Post’s Eleanor Goldberg reported in a 2014 article that, “80% of Central American Women, Girls Are Raped Crossing into the US."
Splinter News reports, “Perpetrators can be coyotes, other migrants, bandits, or even government authorities." Sometimes sex is used as a form of payment when women and girls don’t have money to pay bribes.
Imagine that you are packing a bag for your 12-year-old daughter and you are sending her alone to try and reach America. You have to give her birth control measures because of the high incidence of sexual assaults along the way. This is so common that many women and girls take contraceptives beforehand as preventive measures.
The Daily Mail said in an article, “The women who know they are going to be Raped,” “that female immigrants often take injections costing about $4 that prevent pregnancy for up to one month." Women and girls also take low-cost pills because a prescription is not required to buy birth control medicines in Mexico.
I had to get a handle on just how dangerous this trip through Mexico is on illegal immigrants, and my research leads me to believe that the Democrats at best do not know what is happening, or at worst they know and don’t care. Here are some frightening and horrible facts, along with the sources:
Huffington Post's Homero Aridjis reports in his article “Migrants Ride a 'Train of Death,'" that The Beast is a train that operates on over 1,100 miles of train track from Honduras and officials have counted more than 450 migrants who have returned mutilated. “Murders, muggings, extortions, gang rapes of women and kidnappings (some 20,000 a year) are committed by the rapidly expanding Central American Mara Salvatrucha gangs or by Mexican drug traffickers such as the bloodthirsty Zetas.”
The Center for Investigation and National Security has compared Tapachula in the state of Chiapas in Mexico to Sodom and Gomorrah. Countless girls, young women, and boys have been sold into prostitution in Tapachula.
"Elsewhere in Mexico, corpses of migrants have been found with their organs harvested," HuffPost reports.
Human rights experts estimate that 10,000 undocumented immigrants are kidnapped every year during their passage through Mexico.
The Daily Mail's David Martosko wrote a story on "Illegal immigrants left to die after the border crossing.” Dr. Mike Vickers, a member of the Texas Border Volunteers has counted 259 dead bodies in Brooks County alone, including those of children. “And we're probably only finding 20 percent of them. A lot of people die out here,” he said.
He went on to say, “We find a hell of a lot of women. Three of the last ones who have died on my ranch have been women. We found a dead 12-year-old boy on my neighbor's property.”
CNN reports: "Many fall into the abuses of the smugglers, sexual abuse," said Manuel Padilla, head of the Border Patrol's Tucson sector. "The only thing that matters to them is money, not people."
I found many more stories that report on the abuse of women and children trying to come through Mexico to try and enter the United States illegally, but I think I have documented enough to prove my point. If you agree with me that our elected representatives do not seem to be in command of the facts, then send them a copy of this commentary. You can check every source I have used in this article to point out that if they don’t do their homework, you can do it for them.
I find it indefensible that the party that says it stands for children and women’s rights, the Democrats, can ignore what is happening to tens of thousands of human beings who are savagely being abused.
To make matters worse, the likely new president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, said this past week that he is calling for mass immigration to the United States because, he said, “it is the right of all people in North America to go to the United States.” He told the people of Mexico that immigrants, “must leave their towns and find life in America."
What right does he have to decide our immigration policy?
The Constitution explicitly gives the power to set immigration policy to the Congress of the United States, not the President of Mexico. This latest debacle only makes it harder for the Republicans to pass a bill addressing immigration laws.
The problem of immigration is like many other things that have gone wrong with our country. Successive administrations have “kicked the can down the road,” and President Trump is not going to follow the failed leaders of the past and the failing leaders of today.
