Let’s set aside the utter and appalling lack of manners on the part of Washington over the passing of Justice Antoin Scalia. His body wasn’t even cold before Washingtonians began fighting over who would fill his seat on the Supreme Court.
Low class in Washington comes in many forms. Barack and Michelle Obama have announced they won’t travel the several blocks via 100 car motorcade to a seat up front at the funeral for an important and long-standing and consequential member of the high court, but they will fly thousands of miles to Havana to kiss the ring of the dying hand of communism.
They won’t travel in luxury a few moments to honor a great America because Justice Scalia suffered the crime of being a conservative. Petty? Immature? You bet. So, the Obamas won’t pay tribute to a defender of the Constitution but they will pay tribute to a man and men devoted to destroying the Constitution. Oh yes, and those in Cuba also plotted to assassinate a U.S. president for good measure. Very revealing but we already knew, didn’t we?
Barack Obama is soon to be gone from the White House and good riddance. He and his ilk brought down America, and not once in eight years do I ever remember him quoting a framer or a founder. As America’s first Facebook president, he is skilled in the study of himself, less so in the study of his country.
Some men go to the White House to do great things. Other men because they have nothing better to do. Obama had nothing better to do.
The Republicans announced almost immediately that they would block all of Obama’s nominees to the court, and yet in doing so they are missing a great opportunity to educate America. This could have been a teachable moment. Rather than blocking or ignoring appointees, they should have welcomed each with great fanfare, and then grill them relentlessly on their views of government, the Constitution, and personal freedom. And then vote each nominee down in committee and before the full Senate with speeches and statements on why liberalism is dangerous to America.
They could have put liberalism on trial. They could have put Obamaism on trial. This would have dovetailed nicely with the presidential campaign. Bob Dole, the old legislative wizard, in 1980 brought up bill after bill on tax cuts and spending cuts and national defense to put the Democrats there on record.
This worked nicely with the Reagan campaign and set up many Democrats for the fall election, having been forced to vote on matters they really didn’t want to. Obamaism has been an utter failure for seven-plus years. There are times when show trials serve useful purposes. Putting Obamaism in the dock would be very useful.
