Democrats Demonize Law Enforcement and Refuse to Condemn Violence

An August 3 article in Law Enforcement Today asks, “Have Democrats turned into the anti-police party?

Listening to the rhetoric of many of the Democrat presidential candidates, the answer is yes.

Good examples are Senators Kamala Harris (D-CA) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). They both tweeted that Michael Brown, the black youth who was shot five years ago in Ferguson, Missouri, was “murdered” by white officer Darren Wilson.

That’s not true!

Wilson was not indicted, which led to several days of violence and the origination of the false narrative phrase “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot.

An Obama Justice Department report in 2015 supported Wilson’s argument that he killed Brown in self-defense.

The Washington Post gave the Harris and Warren’s comments "Four Pinocchio’s."

Harris and Warren’s proven lies are bad enough, but the same anti-police theme was echoed by several of their fellow presidential hopefuls who implied that the police were at fault.

Emmy Award Winning investigative journalist and author Sharyl Attkisson, in her article in The Hill, “Time to retire Ferguson narrative,” cited several of the candidates who expressed that theme:

  • Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ): “I am… thinking about the everyday citizens who stood against this police violence… and racism”

  • Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY): “we can't stop fighting the injustice done to [Brown’s] family”

  • New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio: “NO ONE should die due to the color of their skin.”

  • Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT): “we must finally end police violence against people of color”

The above falsehoods were not the first time they showed their anti-law enforcement bent.

Speaking at New Orleans’ Dillard University last year, Warren said of the criminal justice system: "It’s racist ... I mean, front to back.”

These anti-cop attitudes extend to federal law enforcement as well.

Harris went so far as to compare Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) saying at a confirmation hearing that there was a perception among many that ICE’s use of its power had parallels to the KKK.

She is not alone. Several Democrats have joined the anti-ICE parade including:

  • Sen. Warren “we need to rebuild our immigration system from top to bottom, starting by replacing ICE.”

  • Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand: "I believe that [ICE] has become a deportation force.”

  • New York Mayor Bill de Blasio: "ICE's time has come and gone."

Heather MacDonald said it well in an August 5, New York Post article: “Why ‘policing is racist’ is such a poisonous lie”: “The Democratic candidates have revived the anti-police rhetoric of the Obama years.”

Well said!

Reckless rhetoric does have consequences. After shots were fired at an ICE office in San Antonio, Texas, this week, officials said in a statement:

“Political rhetoric and misinformation that various politicians, media outlets and activist groups recklessly disseminate to the American people regarding the ICE mission only serve to further encourage these violent acts.”

There were early warning signs of such an escalation after protests at ICE facilities in Aurora, Colorado, and the killing of an alleged antifa activist armed with "a rifle and incendiary devices" who attempted to attack an ICE Detention Facility in Tacoma, Washington.

If that were not bad enough, anti-ICE protesters in Florida threatened employees of ICE contractor, the GEO Group saying, “We know where all your children live… We know where you sleep at night.”

To the best of my knowledge none of the Democrat presidential candidates have condemned any of these actions.

As reported in Newsmax, former ICE Acting Director Tom Homan says he is "sick and tired" of Democrats attacking ICE and slammed Democratic presidential contenders for not expressing outrage about the attacks coming from left-wing extremists.

The Newsmax story referenced Homan’s Fox News opinion article where he said: “where is the outrage from the nearly two dozen Democrats seeking their party’s presidential nomination regarding the attacks noted above coming from left-wing extremists? Where is the outrage by the media and by the Democratic leadership in Congress?”

Good question!

The same questions can be asked of the same people regarding their failure to condemn attacks on New York Police or praise Philadelphia cops who were heckled and taunted by crowds as they tried to apprehend in a man with an extensive criminal history who shot and wounded six officers during a several hour standoff.

It’s Obama all over again!
