Folly to Abandon Party and Vote for Hillary

Abraham Lincoln, the nation’s first Republican president, once said that “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Current day Republicans should keep these comments in mind and recall the ensuing Civil War, where brothers fought against brothers and friends fought against friends.

At stake then was the United States of America and whether it could exist as a “house divided.” And so it is with today’s Republican Party as it attempts to select its nominee.

As the former chairman of the District of Columbia Delegation to the 1984 Reagan-Bush Convention and member of its important Rules Committee; and, as a Florida delegate to the 2008 McCain-Palin convention, I congratulate the delegates and alternates to the upcoming GOP convention in Cleveland. I would urge them to keep in mind the great traditions of their Party as they face a possible so-called “brokered convention.”

Much is at stake.

I am really amazed at the number of Republicans and conservatives who are saying that if Donald Trump or Ted Cruz is the GOP nominee that they will vote for Hillary.

Rush Limbaugh even suggested that the GOP establishment would rather have Hillary over Trump to preserve its power.

The latest to join the GOP “Hillary chorus” is Charles Koch. That was a real shocker. Koch and his brother, David, have funded conservative groups, were key reasons for the growth of the tea party movement, and are staunch conservatives.

So what is going on that makes Koch and so many others even think of supporting Hillary and all that she and her party stand for? It is really scary.

Are Trump and Cruz so bad that dedicated conservatives and Republicans would abandon their own basic values and principles and support Clinton?

Do they really prefer a candidate who is in the pocket of the abortion lobby where abortion on demand is acceptable? One who follows the mandate of the teachers' union, which opposes parental choice in schools and accountability for teachers in failing public schools in our inner cities? One who was a disaster as secretary of state; lied to the families of the victims of the Benghazi massacre; and will follow in the footsteps and legacy of a failed and wimpish Obama foreign policy including the castration of the U.S. military?

One who will continue to pander to minorities and foster classism to buy votes with more government freebees and a “y’all come” European style open borders policy depriving Americans of jobs and threatening national security? One who will push for a $15 federal minimum wage which will crush small businesses and cost thousands of jobs, especially for minorities? One who will appoint judges, including in the Supreme Court, who will disregard the rights of the unborn at every stage, restrict the right to own firearms, further restrict public expressions, and symbols of Christianity slowly moving our nation to a total secular society.

Is that the America disgruntled Republicans and the GOP establishment want for future generations?

That is the likely result if the GOP establishment and delegates choose to cut off their noses to spite their anti-Trump or Cruz political faces; and, leave Cleveland divided wallowing in “I did not get my way” pettiness!

To them I say go ahead — betray your values and philosophical principles! Jump in bed with Planned Parenthood, organized labor, the National Organization of Women, the Black Lives Matter movement, and others of the “blame America first” crowd — vote for Hillary!

Just remember — they will not respect you. The likely result is the that the GOP as we know it will fall and may end up like Humpty Dumpty in the famous nursery rhyme: “All the king’s horses and all the king’s men could not put Humpty Dumpty together again.”
