Years ago, the noted bank robber Willie Sutton was asked why he robbed banks. His answer was simple and direct, “Because that’s where the money is.”

As elemental — though morally bankrupt — as that reasoning is, it seems to have deeply permeated the thinking of those now who consider themselves “progressive,” relating to our government.

Is there any sanity, any rational thought left on the liberal, socialist, “progressive” part of the political spectrum?

As we move through this turbulent, messy, unprecedented year in our governmental wars, we find normally civil and thoughtful people “losing it,” adopting untenable, un-American, and indefensible positions — in frantic efforts to achieve a possibly unreachable goal.

The goal, at least on the left (not just the “far left” but the center-left as well) is to undo the 2016 election and oust the duly elected President of the United States. It’s an almost impossible task, especially if it’s done within normal legal and Constitutional processes. But this large and increasingly rabid, desperate, and philosophically unbalanced mob is having none of that… those legal, civil, and civic processes.

No, they’re seizing on the issue that the polls say is most important to the 2018 voters — immigration. Since President Trump has insisted he’s going to “build that wall,” intending to restore historic sanity to the process, distinct but unreasoning lines are drawn: loud and angry voices are calling for “open borders,” amnesty for all illegals, all rights of citizenship and access to schools, hospitals, and available jobs to anybody who gets across the border, no matter the age or circumstance.

The recent “march across Mexico” — by parents with their kids from several Hispanic countries, approaching the border believing Democrats in government would assure they could come in and not be separated from their children — created just the chaos and mixed sentiments the liberals wanted, and needed, to paint the president as unfeeling, racist, and unfit to remain in office!

Now, they’re even calling for the dissolution of ICE, the duly authorized police organization that finds and prosecutes and jails or deports criminals among the illegal immigrants. The “progressives” compare ICE to the Gestapo, to gangland “enforcers,” and even akin to the KKK, brutal and racist.

Equally warped media outlets are eager to show pictures and videos of children who appear to be in some kind of jail, separated (by an Obama administration law) from their “parents” ...though many of those kids prove not to belong to the adults who brought them.

So what is the motivation, the rationale for this madness?

The late beloved Senator Teddy Kennedy articulated it for all on the left: “They just want to share in the American dream”!

Does that not echo the Willie Sutton maxim, “Because that’s where the money is”?

Does the understandable desire for something good justify just reaching out and taking it?

No, our Founders understood that any and all would desire what the American dream might provide — and that our Constitution would provide to its citizens equal right to pursue happiness, but not to provide it.

They then created the world’s best legal framework for people to pursue happiness, and to achieve it through individual industry and obedience to the laws that would protect everybody equally.

Isn’t that simple? Isn’t that rational? Isn’t that the real “American way”?

Can’t we all see that a wall is not just a solid way to keep out illegal and criminal intruders — and the best way to secure safety for actual law abiding, tax paying citizens — but is also a huge, enduring symbol that we protect and preserve what everybody wants, and that can only be obtained by legal means?

Is that irrational, inhumane, uncaring, insensitive?

No — it’s as sensible and necessary as the roof on your house and the locks on your doors and windows.

How many “undocumented” families have been invited into Nancy Pelosi’s house? Into the Bernie Sanders’ home? How many young MS-13 “wannabe” teens have Don Lemon, Jake Tapper, and Trump’s other critics welcomed into their homes? It’s easy to tell other Americans what they should do… but they’re not about to do it themselves. Not personally, not on your life!

Please, friend, compare what Trump is trying to do with what Obama did while addressing this immigration problem. Though he did deport thousands of illegals (by what standard I don’t know) — he and his pathetic Attorney General Eric Holder actually encouraged hundreds of thousands more to come to our borders expecting to be allowed in without the normal vetting or prerequisites. Holder, our top legal officer, told the AGs in the States they “didn’t have to enforce laws they disagree with!”

And quoted in The Daily Caller May 13, 2014, Obama said “It’s not smart to enforce immigration laws!” — just one day after the public learned he had released 36,007 illegal immigrant murderers, rapists, thieves and other criminals into the nation’s communities.

These were our president and Attorney General, both sworn to uphold our laws and protect our country and citizens! This is the very seditious, irrational policy corruption that defies logic and our Constitutional way of life, our very liberties!

We must wake up and choose which philosophies we’ll submit to — “progressive” no borders, no ICE, come one, come all, weepy Willie Sutton “take what you want” sell-outs — or “build a wall” and secure our borders and our legitimate citizens’ Constitutional order.

The clock is ticking. A crucial election approaches.
