"Thus did a handful of rapacious citizens come to control all that was worth controlling in America. Thus was the savage and stupid and entirely inappropriate and unnecessary and humorless American class system created." –Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007)

Since the BLM & Antifa riots and the nauseatingly unpatriotic behavior from most of the highest-paid, athlete-crybabies in the world, I immediately and irreversibly made an important decision.

I wasn’t going to give any of my money or my eyeballs to these greedy ingrates who make millions playing children’s games.

It was over.

A 56-year love affair with professional sports, gone.

When I was five years old, my Dad piled me into our white, 1962 Buick station wagon and we went like a shot down the Major Deegan Expressway from our Westchester County, NY home straight to "The House That Ruth Built," Yankee Stadium.

My mitt and bat were clenched tightly in my small hands.

I was already a die-hard Yankee fan, as my father was and this was my first game. His player was Lou Gehrig; mine Mickey Mantle … a multi-generational snapshot of hero worship.

In this first game my 5-year old eyes witnessed, Mantle hit two grand slams, one righty and one lefty. It was a 'Ruthian' experience and that created in me a benevolent idolization of Mantle until the day I die.

But today’s Yankees are a different kettle of spineless layabouts.

We’re talking about boys who never really grew up.

When small, they made the decision to play baseball instead of becoming a police officer, doctor or astronaut, as all ball players did when young … but never really made the jump through adolescence to maturity and it shows in their underdeveloped political decisions to take a knee or disrespect the National Anthem.

Terrified owners strangely clung along.

So I made this momentous decision to stop going to, watching on TV or even checking on the scores of any NBA teams, as soon as I saw Lebron James, a groveler for the Chinese Communist Party start his nonsense.

The NFL was also quickly slapped with my embargo, while I prayed the Yankees did the right thing. They were after all, the New York Yankees.

And they just couldn’t be dumb enough to send out a message of hatred to Americans and their loyal Yankee fans, could they? At their season opener?

But this they did.

In the most disgraceful, moronic display in professional sports ever, my Yankees took their collective knee during our National Anthem in our nation’s capital last June.

Apparently, nobody with two brain cells to rub together in the MLB commissioner’s or Yankees’ offices thought for just a moment, "Wait! This might not be a great idea, Americans might resent this."

And resent we did.

As the other Keystone Cops of pro sports followed suit like sheep baaaa-ing all the way, sports fans who couldn’t attend games in person, also stopped watching games. This left deep-pocketed players and owners begging for loose change.

According to the New York Post on September 8, 2020:

— Backing of sports shifted 34 points to the negative among women from a plus 21 points in 2019 to a minus 13 points.

— Among men, views of sports went from plus 17 points positive to 7 points negative — a shift of 24 points.

— Among whites, the view of sports went from plus 4 points positive to 22 points negative — a shift of 26 points.

— The number of non-whites who view sports positively sank from plus 51 percentage points positive to 16 points favorable.

— Age was a big factor. The positive view of sports dimmed from 25 percentage points positive to 19 points negative in one year among those ages 35 to 54. Among older voters, support diminished from slightly positive to 23 points negative.

And this was well before baseball bowed down to racist anarchists and the fawning, frightened corporatocracy that slobbered all over them.

And it didn’t start with Lebron’s racist antics, no. This whole falling- out-of-love with professional sports thing really began with big-haired, tattooed simpleton Colin Kaepernick. Not only did this political genius ruin his own somewhat flimsy football career, but he started the ball rolling for other athletes to act similarly; fans to eschew him, the 49ers and NFL football too.

The Daily Wire called this activist/athlete a "con man, not a football player" and they were spot-on.

Kaepernick is a lesson in the stupidity of weaving politics into your job that uses your body much more than your brain.

Like Hollywood, where do these athlete-savants get the ludicrous idea any of their fans or the general public give a darn about their political views?

It makes me angry to now know that I’ll never watch or attend another World Series, Super Bowl, or NBA Finals.

I’ll miss my Yankees, my Jets, and my Knicks.

But they did this to themselves with their greed, their sanctimonious lecturing and their disrespect for our flag, anthem and the country that gave them everything they have.

"Thus the American dream turned belly up, turned green, bobbed to the scummy surface of cupidity unlimited, filled with gas, went bang in the noonday sun." –Kurt Vonnegut (1922-2007)
