Democrats' Agenda Endangers Our Safety

Democrats are putting our law enforcement officers in harm’s way just to push their radical political agenda.

Leading Democrats like Rep. Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y., have discussed defunding the law enforcement agencies that protect law-abiding citizens, and have even expressed support for violent protesters who have attacked police officers in cities nationwide.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., has opined that law enforcement agencies should be abolished, alleging that they are inherently racist institutions. These sorts of comments only encourage further attacks on law enforcement, which federal authorities say can embolden rioters and anarchists to perpetrate even more attacks on police officers.

Democrats engaging in incendiary, anti-police rhetoric are not just endangering the men and women of law enforcement, but also innocent American citizens who rightfully  depend on the police to keep them safe and protect their property.

This reckless demagoguery isn’t just confined to the far-left fringe of the Democratic Party.

U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the highest-ranking Democrat in the federal government, recently compared the federal officers protecting public property from arsonists in Portland, Oregon to the "stormtroopers" of Nazi Germany.

U.S. Attorney General William "Bill" Barr forcefully denounced Pelosi’s words, saying they were "irresponsible" and could threaten police officers’ safety, while encouraging more of the violence and civil unrest occuring in our nation's cities led by Democrats.

That’s not just the attorney general’s personal opinion — it’s shared by his colleagues at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). They caution that each attack on law enforcement emboldens additional acts of violence against both police officers and innocent civilians.

Indeed, there have been numerous incidents of violence against law enforcement in recent weeks. In Davenport, Iowa, a police vehicle out on patrol was shot at 13 times. In Las Vegas, Nevada, a police officer was killed as officers attempted to arrest several people who were allegedly "throwing bottles and rocks at officers."

These are not just isolated incidents.

In fact, there has been a 28% increase in felonious deaths of police officers this year compared with last year; many experts point to historical trends showing a correlation between civil unrest and violence against law enforcement.

And these deaths are not limited to the big cities; even in small towns, men and women in blue have been viciously attacked and murdered in the line of duty.

By characterizing law enforcement officers as "stormtroopers" who wish to send "peaceful protesters" to concentration camps, leading Democrats are directly undermining the rule of law, jeopardizing public safety, and putting some of our bravest public servants directly in the line of fire — all to advance their own narrow, partisan interests.
