Will Democrats Ever Genuinely Look Out for Their Constituents?

While Hillary Clinton is still trying to get to the bottom of "What Happened" in 2016, Democrats now entering the second year of the era of President Donald Trump have seemingly abdicated their individual and collective responsibility to represent the interests of their constituency.

Last year, Democrats voted unanimously against giving back money earned by their constituents by voting against the tax reform bill.

"Armageddon!", exclaimed House minority leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., who derided the return of thousands of dollars to taxpayers as "crumbs." "Insanity!" cried Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., who represents the state with the worst tax climate for business (more on his crying in a minute).

The gloom and doom didn’t materialize, as 164 companies (and counting) announced that they will be using these freed funds for employee bonuses, employee raises, investment in domestic production facilities and increased charitable donations.

This year, Democrats seem hellbent on advocating the interests of non-citizens and illegal immigrants over their constituency.

Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., who has been on the front lines of the "s***hole" comment accusations towards President Trump, claims to be singularly focused "full time" on "making sure that those who are being protected by DACA and eligible for the DREAM Act have a future in America." Singularly focused. That means he has no time for the needs and concerns of the citizens of Illinois that voted him into office.

Back to Sen. Booker. He had plenty of "tears of rageover those "s***hole" comments attributed to Mr. Trump — when the lights were burning brightly and the cameras were all on him. But where are those same tears of rage for New Jerseyans tolerating criminal illegal immigrants with prior felony convictions ranging from sexual assault to possessing child pornography, to violent crimes blighting the state?

Speaking of substance, the Democratic narrative on immigration took another hit when the Department of Justice released damning facts showing that three in four people convicted domestically of international terrorism charges were born outside the U.S., many of whom came to the country through the controversial means of chain migration.

That’s the problem. Feelings trump facts these days. Democrats offer voters histrionics and hysteria, not a substantive vision based in fact. The Trump agenda is firmly in the driver seat, according to a majority of Americans on both sides of the aisle. Democrats aren’t even in the backseat of the car — they're in the toddler car seat in the third row, "resisting" through temper tantrums and exaggeration behind the GOP-led Congress and  — surprisingly — the media.

The Democrats came in 4th in what should be a three-way race.

Meanwhile, President Trump offers voters history. Like landmark tax reform. Like drastic reduction of government regulation. Like record low unemployment for minorities. Like shockingly frequent stock market rallies and record highs.

Amid the triggered cries and wails, Democratic voters should ask themselves: Is our party ever going to look out for them?
