Democrats on Assault Claims? Oh, the Hypocrisy!

The 1937 explosion of the airship Hindenburg is one of the most famous on-site news reports of a disaster.

The zeppelin was completing its inaugural trans-Atlantic flight of the year to the U.S. Herbert Morrison of WLS-Radio, Chicago, was providing eyewitness coverage of the airship's triumphant arrival when the Hindenburg caught fire and crashed to the ground. Amid the tragedy, an unsettled Morrison exclaimed, "Oh, the humanity!"

Another dirigible is quickly becoming another disaster as the 2020 election season progresses. A shot at the hull of Joe Biden's presidential campaign has been launched by Tara Reade, a former Biden Senate staffer. Reade accused Biden of sexual assault in a complaint dating back to 1993.

I have no idea whether the allegations are true or not. I believe the former V.P. deserves due process, and Reade deserves to have her story heard, as I believed in a previous instance.

Less than two years ago, Brett Kavanaugh was nominated to be associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. The American Bar Association rated him "well qualified," and The Hill wrote that he "appeared to be a lock for the Supreme Court." Then a complaint materialized stating that he had sexually assaulted a woman in the early 1980s, while she and Kavanaugh were in high school.

We don't need to re-litigate the Kavanaugh case, and we aren't going to settle the Biden-Reade drama either. We do need to compare and contrast the two situations and determine if there is any hypocrisy.

At the time of the Kavanaugh hearing, leading voices in the Democratic Party and their accomplices in the mainstream media were relentless in their outrage. They set a standard repeated over and over again: "ALL women MUST be believed." It was simple. It was unconditional. What followed turned the Senate hearings into a kangaroo court.

Now, with Biden facing a sexual assault accusation, those same Democrat voices are strangely silent. Their partners in the mainstream media and other Biden supporters should win a gold medal in mental gymnastics for the contortions accomplished to justify their hypocrisy.

When sitting in the catbird seat, Democrats forget that one day they may be in the opposite position. They did it before Biden's current problem.

When I worked in the House of Representatives, the Republican-controlled Senate considered "the nuclear option" to allow a simple majority to confirm judicial appointments. Republicans didn't have the cojones to do it, but the Democrats did when they regained control of the Senate. That decision eventually cleared the path for Supreme Court Justices Gorsuch and Kavanaugh. The Democrats had forgotten that lesson by the time of Kavanaugh's selection for the Supreme Court.

Democrats and the media set the standard: "ALL women MUST be believed." Now they are trapped by the benchmark they established two years ago. For every justification they offer for Joe Biden, there is a corresponding example they would not listen to for Brett Kavanaugh.

Their choices are to

  1. Live up to the rule they set, and proceed with a thorough investigation.
  2. Admit that their standard was wrong and that perhaps there was a little political Kabuki theater during the Kavanaugh hearings.
  3. Continue with this double-standard and let fair-minded people draw their own conclusions.

Even for liberals and their P.R.-wing, the mainstream media, the hypocrisy is stunning. But the sanctimony doesn't stop at "ALL women MUST be believed."

Democrats and the media called Kavanaugh a liar. Since Donald Trump became president, they began counting his "lies." As if Obama and Clinton never told any.

But Joe Biden has never lied? He just forgets places and dates or makes gaffes:

  • He was in grave danger in Afghanistan, where the enemy shot at him.
  • He never knew anything about his son's business in Ukraine or China. They never discussed it on Air Force Two while flying to China.
  • He never entertained cuts to Social Security or Medicare. Only Republicans propose pushing Granny out of her wheelchair and over a cliff.
  • Biden claimed he marched with tens of thousands of others in a civil rights movement.
  • His plagiarizing of material forced him out of his first presidential run in 1988.
  • Corn Pop

He mixes up people, such as when he introduced his wife as his sister and his sister as his wife. Those times when Biden forgets or mixes something up, such as trying to recite a passage from the Declaration of Independence and eventually calling it "the thing," are not evidence of senility. Those are cute and endearing.

Look, lies are lies, and gaffes are gaffes. As we must believe all women, we need one standard for truth-telling.

Democrats make me think of three words: "Oh, the hypocrisy!"

Joe Biden's issues fall under Colin Powell's Iraq War axiom. Just remember, Democrats: "You break it, you own it."
