GOP Rep. Ted Poe, 67, Says He Has Leukemia

Rep. Ted Poe says he has cancer.

The Republican from Houston announced Wednesday that he's been diagnosed with leukemia. The 67-year-old Poe says he's being treated at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Poe said in a statement that he intends to beat cancer, have a full recovery and continue to represent the people of Texas. Poe says he plans to spend time in Texas during the Congressional recess and focus on his health.

The former prosecutor and ex-judge represents District 2. Poe has served in the U.S. House since 2005.
