The first presidential address to Congress by Donald John Trump was masterful.

In clear, calm tones infused with compassion seldom seen by many, oozing with heartfelt sympathy for one of our fallen soldiers, Trump took command of this nation’s psyche — ensuring that we all understand he is in charge.

So here is the dig.

For the nation, hold on tight. We are going for a roller coaster ride like none before; however at its end, many will want to go again for more.

To the nation, the Trump challenge was — listen to the people too many consider "deporables" and heed the U.S. Constitution.

To the Republican Party confusion is rising to the surface as to whether he will follow its mission (and intent) or "Trumpize" it — in his likeness.

In his congressional address, President Donald John Trump articulated in a clear, determined voice his vision for the nation. Even the black women in my beauty parlor understood, as had Wilson Carey from North Carolina's Caswell County in 1864, that the focus on immigration which many would like to ignore, deprives citizens of jobs and services belonging to them first.

Begrudgingly, many African Americans have to acknowledge that our communities need to be better and student options for choice have the potential to help many rise up.

To scared Republicans and Democrats, as well as media mavens and others in the throes of diminishing power, it is abundantly clear that all bets are off.

They will be judged by their successes and truths told to the people.

Being the closer for trade negotiations and taking them into his own hands can give the nation under Trump a different sort of leverage to act immediately instead of engaging in months of haggling.

Rebuilding a military perceptibly gutted without a war to fight could be more about jobs than wars. Bringing back jobs which will likely be taken over by robots in the near future will force a rethinking of work; especially for those lacking major skills potentially in eSTEM (English, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

The trillion dollar infrastructure wish list will be a joke if its priority isn’t fixing the over 30,000 unsafe bridges in the nation. Trade, education, infrastructure — oh my!

Where is the money coming from?

The Trump challenge is to heed the Constitution by not expanding unfunded mandates and adding others which — while desirable for some, like child care — are not the government’s responsibility.

Trump’s eyes must be forced to also see what is needed to breech gaps on inclusion and fairness in a nation adrift in an increasingly widening gap between rich and poor.

We must not only keep the faith but we must also restore it by being a secure nation of opportunity, one where all are free to be what they want to be.
