A Planned Parenthood official says the organization may sue the Center for Medical Progress, the pro-life group that published secretly recorded footage of Planned Parenthood officials allegedly negotiating the sale of aborted fetal tissue and body parts,
The Hill reports.
"I absolutely do believe that they have violated laws in terms of how they secured these videos," Executive Vice President Dawn Laguens told The Hill. ”But the fraud is also in how they have presented them and in the editing.
"We are considering everything, I'm not a lawyer — but everything is on the table when you look at these videos and the fraud and the conspiracy behind it."
Last month, the Center for Medical Progress began releasing videos reportedly showing Planned Parenthood officials negotiating the price charged for fetal tissue parts intended for research as well as altering abortion procedures to ensure a better harvest.
Federal law prohibits clinics from making a profit on donated organs and tissue — they can only charge for the cost of transport and storage. It is also against the law to alter how a medical procedure is performed in order to optimize the extraction of tissue.
Breitbart reports that in the latest video, a medical technician is shown "using scissors to cut through the face of a newly aborted but nearly fully developed baby boy at a Planned Parenthood facility so that his intact brain could be extracted."
Planned Parenthood claims that the Center for Medical Progress has edited the videos to present a false narrative to push its anti-abortion agenda. Republican lawmakers have called for the Justice Department to investigate Planned Parenthood and are seeking to strip the $528 million the organization receives annually from the federal government.
Laguens told The Hill that the Center for Medical Progress should submit "all of the videos and the source footage unedited and they would hand it to Congress and law enforcement" instead of having to "splice it together in all sorts of crazy ways in order to tell a political story."
A host of corporations, including Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Co. and Xerox, have severed ties with Planned Parenthood since the controversy erupted.
