Petition Calls for End to YouTube Restricting Prager U Videos

More than 67,000 people have signed a petition demanding YouTube stop restricting educational videos produced by conservative talk host Dennis Prager's "Prager U."

The petition noted 16 of the videos are not available in "restricted" mode, though they are still visible if a user is not using restricted mode.

"Many families enable restricted mode in order to keep inappropriate and objectionable adult and sexual content away from their children," the petition read, "not to prevent them from watching animated, age-appropriate, educational videos."

Among the titles placed on "restricted" are: "Are the Police Racist?" "Why Don't Feminists Fight for Muslim Women?" and "Why Did America Fight the Korean War?"

The videos feature scholars and experts talking about various issues along with animated visuals. They don't include sexual content, but some do have controversial political points of view. One of YouTube's criteria for restricting videos is when users flag them.

"[I]t's easy to imagine a flood of users reporting a political video — microagressed college students have a lot of free time — and limiting a viewpoint's audience," The Wall Street Journal editorial board noted Wednesday.

Prager U said the 16 videos that have been restricted account for 10 percent of its total number.

"YouTube is free to set its own standards, but the company is undercutting its claim to be a platform for 'free expression,'" the Journal argued. "If anyone there would like to brush up on the concept, Mr. Prager has a video about it."

The complete list of titles:

  • Are The Police Racist?
  • Why Don't Feminists Fight for Muslim Women?
  • Why Did America Fight the Korean War?
  • Who's More Pro-Choice: Europe or America?
  • What ISIS Wants
  • Islamic Terror: What Muslim Americans Can Do
  • Did Bush Lie About Iraq?
  • Who NOT to Vote For
  • Israel: The World's Most Moral Army
  • Radical Islam: The Most Dangerous Ideology
  • The Most Important Question About Abortion
  • Why Do People Become Islamic Extremists?
  • What is the University Diversity Scam?
  • He Wants You
  • Israel's Legal Founding
