Martin Walsh was sitting at home in Natick, Ma., watching election results for Boston mayor on television, when his cellphone rang.
It was Vice President Joe Biden, offering congratulations.
"You son of a gun, Marty!" he thundered. "You did it!"
The only problem was, it was the wrong Marty Walsh,
Boston.com reported Wednesday.

Biden had called a former aide to U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy instead of the other Marty Walsh, the newly elected mayor of Boston, who was celebrating his victory at the Park Plaza Hotel.
The Marty Walsh that he called, who is president of Gateway Public Solutions, a government relations firm in Boston, thanked Biden and then delivered the bad news.
The former Kennedy aide offered to help the vice president track down the other Marty Walsh.
"We're a dime a dozen in Boston," he said. "I probably know eight Marty Walshes."
Biden wasn't the only politician to make the mistake.
R.T. Rybak, mayor of Minneapolis and vice chairman of the Democratic National Committee, and U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, of Florida, both left congratulatory voicemail messages as well.
