A gay marriage group is launching a $1 million media ad blitz in support of same-sex marriage that features President Barack Obama, former first lady Laura Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney, and former Secretary of State Colin Powell, according to
Politico.
The Respect for Marriage Coalition, co-chaired by the Human Rights Campaign, will begin the campaign with TV spots airing on cable and Sunday-morning talk shows, along with major newspaper ads in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Politico.
The ads are designed to showcase figures from both sides of the political aisle who support gay marriage.

The ad quotes Obama from his inaugural address last month. “Our journey is not complete until our gay brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law.”
It also includes a clip of Laura Bush saying, “When couples are committed to each other and love each other, then they ought to have the same sort of rights that everyone has.”
The ad features a brief comment as well from Cheney speaking at the National Press Club. "Freedom means freedom for everyone," he says.
The ad campaign is being launched in the wake of same-sex-marriage victories in four states: Washington, Maryland, Maine, and Minnesota. It also coincides with the U.S. Supreme Court's current consideration of two major cases relating to gay marriage, one concerning California’s same-sex-marriage ban and the other dealing with the federal Defense of Marriage Act.
