Kaepernick Signs $1M Book Deal

Kaepernick Signs $1M Book Deal
Jobless NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick (Marcio Jose Sanchez)

By    |   Tuesday, 24 October 2017 08:40 PM

Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL quarterback who started the national anthem protests, signed a million-dollar book deal with Random House, according to a Page Six report.

Kaepernick in 2016 gained nationwide attention when he did not stand during the national anthem at football games in protest of the treatment of minorities. He was with the San Francisco 49ers then, but became a free agent after the season and has not been signed by another NFL team since.

The free agent has since filed a controversial grievance against league owners, claiming teams have colluded in keeping him out of the league in retaliation for his views on social issues.

The national anthem protests have continued in Kaepernick's absence, and President Donald Trump added fuel to the issue with comments last month saying NFL players who kneeled in protest should be fired by owners for doing so.

The president has repeatedly called the demonstrations "disrespectful" and last Sunday said the league had shown "no leadership" as players continued protests.

Kaepernick's book deal is with One World, an imprint of Random House.
