Illinois Man Killed By Swans

By    |   Monday, 16 April 2012 02:18 PM EDT

A man drowned in a Des Plaines, Illinois, area pond Saturday after he was apparently attacked by swans that he took care of.

Anthony Hensley, 37, a married father of two, worked for a company that used swans and dogs to keep geese away from properties, the Chicago Sun Times reported.

But Cook County sheriff’s investigators and others are trying to determine whether Hensley, who was paddling a kayak, got too close to the swans or to their nesting area.

Hensley rolled off the kayak, and witnesses say one of the swans continued to swim after him as he tried to make it to shore. Hensley was underwater by the time rescue personnel arrived. An autopsy determined that the cause of  death was drowning.
