Sen. Ron Johnson: Obama Using IRS as Political Tool

By    |   Tuesday, 25 February 2014 03:01 PM EST

Republican Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin has blasted the Obama administration for not holding anyone accountable for the Internal Revenue Service scandal or assigning a special prosecutor to the case.

Speaking to Newsmax TV's John Bachman on "America's Forum," Johnson, who was elected in 2010, said, "I can't really point to an individual in his administration he has held accountable for anything, and obviously with the IRS being used as a political tool, a weapon, against their political opponents is just outrageous."

It was revealed last month that federal authorities didn’t plan to pursue criminal charges in the scandal, in which the IRS targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.

"We need to find some people to hold accountable for that. It's really President Obama that we should have held accountable, but we didn't do that," Johnson said.

As for the reported deal between Iran and Iraq to exchange weapons, Johnson, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said, "It really underscores the strategic blunder that this administration committed in not securing a status of force agreement with Iraq to help stabilize that region. I don't think Syria would have erupted or degraded to the extent it did if we would have had a stabilizing force in Iraq to prevent the over flights supplying the Syrian government.

"Just across the board, we see the black flag of al-Qaida now flying over Fallujah, where of course we had all kinds of casualties. Not only that, but just in the Iraq War, it’s just a real shame what we have frittered away in this administration because of President Obama's lack of leadership," he said.

Johnson also condemned the nuclear deal reached between Western countries and Iran, saying, "This administration, it's just totally, really operating in fantasy land here. It just does not understand how Iran is not interested in really negotiating in good faith. It's just delaying so it can continue with its nuclear program."

He continued, "There's absolutely no reason for Iran to enrich uranium for nuclear power. It can be supplied like other countries are supplied the nuclear fuel. The only reason to enrich uranium is for a nuclear weapons program, and this administration refused to acknowledge that at our own peril."
