Conservative radio host Laura Ingraham has slammed House Majority Leader Eric Cantor for proclaiming himself "anti-amnesty" in the run-up to his primary in June.
Ingraham blasted the Virginia Republican for issuing campaign literature recently that insisted he was instrumental in
fighting a measure supported by President Barack Obama that would grant amnesty to illegal immigrants.
"What are the Republicans getting out of Eric Cantor being House Majority Leader?" Ingraham said, arguing Cantor had the nerve and "gusto" to claim that he was against amnesty after issuing multiple statements in support of it in the past.
She added there was one certainty about Cantor: "He's all in for amnesty."
"Now he's claiming he's something he's not," she said.
Cantor has been
a vocal proponent of immigration reform, and reports indicate that he has also been working behind the scenes to get House Republicans to support legislation that would allow some illegal immigrants who were brought across the border as children to become legal residents.
