It's doubtful the United States has yet adopted a strategy to defeat the Islamic State (ISIS), according to national security analyst Clifford May, president of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.
May's assessment Friday on the "Steve Malzberg Show" on
Newsmax TV, came as Islamic State extremists came within eight miles of Baghdad, the city they hope to capture.

"The idea they could shut the airport at Baghdad after all that Americans have done over a long period of time to try to reproduce a decent and safe environment in Iraq is really startling, distressing and pretty terrible," May said.
"It's one thing to say we have a strategy in place, we can see progress on the horizon, we're going to move steadily and we're going to continue with our strategy.
"But there's a real possibility that we don't have strategy at all, we have some tactics that are not achieving anything whatsoever."
