Carly Fiorina: Cops 'Needed to Be Charged' in Baltimore

By    |   Monday, 04 May 2015 10:19 PM

On the day she announced her candidacy for president, Carly Fiorina found herself answering for a statement that many people on the right found controversial.

After six Baltimore police officers were charged in the death of Freddie Gray on Friday, Fiorina said people were "relieved" to see the charges.

"Any situation in which police are engaged in violence, then police must be held accountable," she said.

Fiorina appeared Monday night on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File" to discuss her presidential run, and was asked about the comment by host Megyn Kelly.

"We've seen videos of what appears to be sort of a lifeless body getting dragged into a van," Fiorina said. "We've heard doctors say that it's virtually impossible to sever your own spinal cord with self-injury. We know that the van took an unscheduled stop. I think the point is that there's enough evidence here that people needed to be charged.

"We're now going to hear the evidence, which is, of course, what a court of law is all about. But I think to have said nothing went wrong here would have strained credulity, honestly."
