New Jersey native and basketball legend Shaquille O'Neal announced his endorsement of Chris Christie on Sunday as the incumbent governor gears up for next week's election.
O'Neal, 41, who was born in Newark, released a video Sunday in which he lauded Christie for his commitment to underprivileged kids in urban neighborhoods.

"I don’t endorse many politicians, but Chris Christie is different," O'Neal says in the 30-second video. "He’s working with me to bring jobs back to our cities, and on a new program to help kids in tough neighborhoods get ahead."
Earlier this month, the former NBA star joined Christie to announce a new after-school "Just Play Campaign" at the
Boy & Girls Club of East Camden, according to NBC Philadelphia.
In March, the two met to talk about the state's gun buyback program.
"He's a good man," O'Neal says in the endorsement. "Excuse me, he's a great man."
Christie will face off against Democrat Barbara Buono at the polls Nov. 5. The candidates squared off in a final debate last week, exchanging jabs about the government shutdown, Hurricane Sandy rebuilding efforts, and Christie's rumored 2016 White House bid.
"The governor is running, we already know it, he's already gone, and I think we should return the favor on Nov. 5," Buono said.
An Oct. 23 Rutgers-Eagleton Poll put Christie ahead of Buono 61 percent to 28.
