Political commentator Scottie Nell Hughes called a Molotov cocktail a "mazel tov" cocktail bomb during a CNN panel discussion Sunday and set off a social media firestorm.

Hughes, a Donald Trump supporter who has regularly appeared on CNN to defend the Republican presidential nominee, during the discussion was criticizing rapper Jay Z and entertainer wife Beyonce  who recently headlined a concert in support of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

"One of his main videos starts off with a crowd throwing mazel tov cocktails at the police," Hughes said in describing a Jay Z video in an attempt to point out an anti-police message. Hughes was referring to a Jay Z and Kanye West music video for the song "No Church in the Wild," released in 2012.

The show's host Don Lemon corrected Hughes, saying "Molotov cocktails."

"Mazel tov" is a Jewish phrase expressing congratulations or good luck; a Molotov cocktail is a firebomb in a bottle.

Hughes acknowledged the mistake on Twitter to former Huffington Post writer Roy Sekoff, blaming it on lack of sleep.

The response on social media, though, had already begun.
