Raymond Myles, a judge who was beaten in a road-rage incident last year, was shot dead outside his South Side Chicago home early Monday.

The 66-year-old was found fatally wounded after police responded to a call that shots had been fired early Monday morning, the Chicago Sun Times reported.

A 52-year-old woman had reportedly walked out of Myles’ home just before 5 a.m. when she came in contact with the shooter.

Detective Melissa Staples said the two “exchanged words” and then the woman was shot once in her leg, the Sun Times reported. Myles reportedly heard the noise and came outside. After arguing with the shooter, Myles was reportedly shot multiple times.

“Upon hearing the commotion and the gunshot, Judge (Raymond) Myles exited his residence,” Staples said at a news conference Monday morning, according to the Chicago Tribune. “(He) exchanged words with the offender before he was fatally shot multiple times.”

The shooter then fled from the scene.

The woman called 911. She was taken to Christ Advocate Medical Center.

Police have yet to determine a motive for the shootings, but suspect that it might have been an attempted robbery. Nothing appeared to be taken.

Staples said detectives are currently pursuing “multiple and promising leads” and also looking at public and private neighborhood surveillance footage for answers.

Staples also said that the FBI is offering a $25,000 reward to anyone who can offer information that leads to an arrest.

During Myles’ career in the courtroom, he was said to have been involved in many high profile cases.

"I join all of the judges today in the Circuit Court of Cook County in expressing our sadness regarding the tragic passing of our colleague and friend, Associate Judge Raymond Myles," Chief Judge Timothy C. Evans said in a statement. "I offer my deepest condolences to his family, friends and colleagues in the Criminal Division. … I have always known Judge Myles to be focused and determined in the pursuit of justice, and his conduct earned him the confidence and respect of the people who appeared before him.

"All of our colleagues at the Leighton Criminal Court Building will miss Judge Myles, who they came to know for his kindness and his impartial administration of justice."
