The 2014 Porsche Macan won’t be revealed until next month’s 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show, but the luxury auto manufacturer has kept car enthusiasts excited by releasing teasers for the new model.
The Macan starts at $52,000 and is a compact crossover based on the Cayenne. It is Porsche’s first SUV. The Macan is a smaller, sportier version of the Cayenne but shares many of the same design elements.

“From a distance and without any other cars to reference for size, it is very easy to mistake the Macan with the Cayenne. The two share a common design language that remains clear,”
wrote Autoweek’s Yoshi Kimura.
Porsche has created a website to tout the vehicle until it is unveiled on Nov. 20. The Macan’s latest teaser reveals the car will have quad-LED headlights. While LEDs are becoming a more common headlight design, enthusiasts have yet to see an innovation like the Macan’s.
“Porsche has been hinting at lighting innovations in its production cars through recent concept reveals, including the stunning Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo showcar from last year's Paris Motor Show,” Porsche said on the teaser.
Leaked photos suggest the Macan S will have a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, while the Macan Turbo will boast a 3.6-liter force-fed unit. Both models will have seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearboxes. The S model will start at $52,000 while the Turbo is expected to cost $75,000.
No technical details have been released about the Macan, but experts say the vehicle will have options for four- and six-cylinder gas and diesel engines.
Cayenne is the fastest selling Porsche model of all time, with worldwide sales that totaled 77,822 in 2012, according to Autoweek. Porsche attempts to piggyback off the success of the Cayenne but has created the Macan to appeal to a wider range of people.
“Its breadth of ability is quite stunning, underpinned by a heroic engine, fantastically efficient driveline and a chassis that appears to have been sprinkled with more than a pinch of Weissach engineering magic. The exterior won't be to everyone's taste, but the interior is inviting and, given its relatively compact dimensions, quite spacious,” Kimura wrote.
