A plus size calendar was released last week by swimwear vendor Swimsuits For All in response to the 50th Anniversary Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue published in February.
The apparent trigger for the plus size calendar creators was the early rumor that Sports Illustrated was considering using a curvy model or models for its cover in contrast to the usual thin models that are usually featured.

Despite the rumor, Sports Illustrated went ahead with its typical thin model layout prompting Swimsuits for All President Moshe Laniado to reach out to fashion blogger GabiFresh and move forward with the plus size calendar titled "Sexy at Every Curve."
"When the issue came out and that didn’t happen, we were disappointed and decided to do our own calendar shoot around the idea that curvy women — and all women — are sexy in swimwear and sexy to men,"
Laniado told Today.com.
The May through September plus size calendar, which is available for free on
SwimSuitsforAll.com, even mimicked the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue cover.
"I think it's sad that the representatives for women in mainstream culture are usually so small. Just because we have such a diversity of sizes in the real world," GabiFresh said in a calendar preview video. "What happens is I think that so many women see those girls and they think that they have to look like that. I know that plus size models and bloggers like myself are really helping to change that."
"You know young girls grow up looking at magazines [with] little, tiny, skinny girls and saying 'oh I should look like this,' that’s how eating disorders are developed and horrible things [happen], and I think that the media and TV and magazines and all of that has a lot to do with it," plus size model Shareefa J, who appeared in the calendar, said in the promotional video.
According to GabiFresh, the response to the plus size calendar was extremely encouraging, while Laniado suggested to Today.com that there might be a full year calendar in the future.
"The response has been overwhelmingly positive," GabiFresh told Today.com. "We have been completely blown away by how supportive the media, women, and men have been about the 'Sexy at Every Curve' concept, encouraging that having curves doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel sexy in a swimsuit."
