McCartney has been at the top of the list since the paper started it in 1989. At the time, his net worth was estimated at $123 million. By 1994, his worth shot up to nearly $615 million, The Sunday Times reported.
The Guinness Book of World Records describes him as the "most successful composer and recording artist of all time," selling more than 100 million albums and 100 million singles.
McCartney, 70, still goes on tour. In July 2011, he played two sold-out concerts at the new Yankee Stadium in New York City.
In addition to his accomplished musical career, the father of five is an outspoken animal rights advocate who has adopted a vegan lifestyle.
Ranking second on the "Rich List" is British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who is worth approximately $954 million. Webber is best known for his contributions to musical theatre, having composed 13 musicals, including "The Phantom of the Opera" and "Cats."
British singer Adele, worth about $46 million, tops the "2013 Young Music Rich List," which includes the richest Brits who are 30 years old or younger. The 24-year-old blonde soulful singer won "Best New Artist" and "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" Grammys in 2008, the year she made her debut.
This year, she won "Best Original Song" at the 2013 Academy Awards and at the Golden Globes for her song "Skyfall," the theme of the latest James Bond installment.
