Oliver Stone panned Megyn Kelly's interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin as he promoted his own multi-segment Showtime interview with the Russian leader that starts Sunday.

Kelly, the former Fox News anchor, made her debut on NBC with an interview with Putin on her new show "Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly." The interview, though, was widely panned for not breaking any new ground in allegations that the Russians interfered in the 2016 election, said The Business Insider.

Stone said Kelly wasn’t prepared to handle an interview with the former KGB agent and came off as hostile in the interview, said USA Today. Stone, though, also suggested that Kelly got the one-on-one interview because of her attractiveness.

"(In) those 15 minutes she got, she asked every hostile question she could ask," Stone told USA Today. "She's beautiful to look at and I'm sure that had a lot to do with getting any interview at all, because he's not averse to beauty and also she has charisma, but she's not informed well."

When pressed on his comments about Kelly's looks, Stone appeared to back off.

"I'm sure he's aware that it was NBC and it’s a huge audience. ... I would think in person she liked him, but she certainly had (a stern face during the interview). The questions are hard. If they wanted to provoke him, they did. I suppose he got provoked a bit."

NBC News President Noah Oppenheim fired back at the Academy Award-winning filmmaker about his comments on Kelly, said The Associated Press.

"No one here is interested in Oliver Stone's unsolicited thoughts on Megyn Kelly's appearance or his ill-informed opinion of her journalism," Oppenheim said, per The AP. "But so long as we're offering each other professional feedback, please let him know I don't think he's made a decent movie since the early '90s."

Stone's "The Putin Interviews" will air in four episodes on Showtime starting Sunday, according to Variety. The episodes were cut from 30 hours of footage with the Russian president over the span of 12 different conversations.
