Former Rep. Michele Bachmann may have stepped down from Congress but she still has a taste for provocative headlines. She caused a stir this week when she compared President Barack Obama to Andreas Lubitz, the Germanwings co-pilot who intentionally crashed his airliner in the French Alps.
Bachmann posted the comment to her Facebook page on Tuesday, and it quickly garnered thousands of shares across the social network.
Bachmann wrote the post on the day that Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, his chief negotiator, failed to reach an agreement with Iran about its nuclear program. The end-of-the-month deadline passed, forcing them to extend the talks once again.
After several purported leaks about the details of the negotiation, many foreign policy minds fear that Obama will concede too much, and pave a pathway for Iran to build a nuclear bomb. That in turn could threaten Israel, the U.S., and the West in general.
Clearly Bachmann is one of those who don't have much faith in Obama's ability to negotiate, as she compared it not only to a plane wreck, but a particularly insidious and gruesome plane wreck.
According to European prosecutors, on March 24 Lubitz locked the pilot out of the cockpit, and intentionally flew Germanwings Flight 9525 into a mountainside in the Alps, killing himself and all of the other 149 people on board the airplane.
CBS News noted
that Bachmann has a history of making controversial statements. She once said that the musical "The Lion King" was gay propaganda, and claimed that the HPV vaccine could cause "mental retardation."
