Megyn Kelly has accused President-elect Donald Trump’s social media director Dan Scavino of spreading hostility after she’s received death threats.
The journalist is now under armed guard and she’s accusing Scavino, Trump’s social media director, of “stirring hatred” online, and she wants him to stop, The Guardian reported.
“The vast majority of Donald Trump supporters are not at all this way,” Kelly, a host on Fox News, told an audience in Washington. “It’s that far corner of the internet that really enjoys nastiness and threats and unfortunately there is a man who works for Donald Trump whose job it is to stir these people up and that man needs to stop doing that. His name is Dan Scavino.”
Scavino ran Trump’s social media throughout his presidential campaign, and he now expects to become a photographer in the White House or handle the White House Twitter account.
Scavino and Kelly have had issues before. In October, Scavino took to Twitter to say “Megyn Kelly made a total fool out of herself tonight – attacking Donald Trump. Watch what happens to her after this election is over,” The Guardian noted.
That was after Kelly and Trump ally Newt Gingrich shared a “heated exchange," The Guardian said.
Kelly has also had run-ins with Trump, who has called her a “bimbo” while speaking negatively about her show, “The Kelly File,” according to New York magazine.
Monday night, Kelly told the audience that her family has been under armed guard for more than a year because of the threats.
“The worst part is the security threats that I’ve had to face and, as much as I try to avoid some of that online vitriol, I get lots of it and I really hate it,” she said, according to New York magazine. “I find that stuff just soul-killing. It’s not an appropriate price to pay for hard-hitting journalism.”
Kelly has also accused Trump of screaming at her on the phone in August, WND noted.
“You’re a disgrace! You ought to be ashamed of yourself! You’re a disgrace! I almost unleashed my beautiful Twitter account against you and I still may!” Trump yelled at Kelly, according to reports.
Despite Kelly’s concerns and her past encounters with Trump and Scavino, "there is no evidence he is behind the online comments Kelly receives," The Hill reported.
