Dropping Malia Obama off at Harvard University was "like open-heart surgery," former President Barack Obama said Monday at an event for the Beau Biden Foundation, The Hill reported.
In a speech, Barack Obama added he was proud of himself for not crying in front of his daughter when dropping her off at the university.
Malia Obama kick-started her undergraduate career at Harvard University earlier this month, following in the footsteps of her parents who both graduated from Harvard Law School.
This comes after a gap year during which she travelled and spent time completing an internship with the Weinstein Company film studio, according to CBS News.
Last month, Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama made headlines when they were spotted helping their oldest daughter move into Harvard University's campus in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Malia Obama has also drawn a fair share of attention from the public while attending classes.
In one incident, TMZ reported that the former first daughter was harassed by a woman adamant to get a photo for her grandchild, staking out a salad joint with her camera poised until Malia Obama left.
It was reported the former president’s daughter retaliated by saying "are you gonna take it in my face like an animal in a cage?"
