The Oakland A’s have rallied around young fan Loren Jade Smith, who lost an extensive memorabilia collection when his family’s home burned down in the Santa Rosa, California, wildfires.

Smith wrote a letter to the team about his love of baseball and the A’s and the loss of his collection in the fire, which was then posted on Twitter.

Nine-year-old Smith said the “saddest things” he lost in the fire were his baseball cards, 17 jerseys, 10 hats and a ball signed by the team and managers.

Oakland A’s president Dave Kaval promised to give new A’s gear to the whole family, and the A’s players as well as Topps baseball card company are joining together to donate memorabilia to replace Smith’s collection, SB Nation reported.

More baseball teams like the Tampa Bay Rays, Detroit Tigers, and Colorado Rockies have donated items also.

The A’s also posted an address where anyone could send items for Smith.

The wildfires in Northern California have resulted in at least 40 deaths to date and thousands of homes destroyed in the region.
