Reality star Kim Kardashian, who advocated more gun control in the days and weeks after the deadly school shooting in Newtown, Conn., recently surfaced on Instagram by posting a photo of a diamond-encrusted gun.
"Just how is it that a mentally troubled teen can have access to a gun! #GunControl!!"
Kardashian tweeted a few days after the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary.
Then on Jan. 14, the one-month anniversary of the shooting, she promoted a petition for reduced gun violence to 17 million of her followers.
"Today, people in Newtown are making the #sandyhookpromise to reduce gun violence. Sign the pledge with me at.sandyhookpromise.org," she wrote then.
This week, however, the E! star seemed to contradict herself when she posted an online photo of a gold-plated revolver with dozens of diamonds set in the pistol's filigree handle.
Fans were enraged about the controversial photo, and Kardashian swiftly deleted it. But not soon enough.
"Kim Kardashian posted a pic of a gun on Instagram & now everyone is all p***** off. I forgot the 2nd amendment didn't count for celebs," one critic wrote.
"@KimKardashian you have too much influence to be this blind and ignorant. Innocent children & people still die even if the gun is pretty," wrote another.
“@kimkardashian seriously. When everyone is debating gun control, this is what you post – as if it’s just a fun accessory?” a third chimed in.
Then as more people took aim at the star of "Keeping Up With The Kardashians," the entertainment press came to her defense.
"Kim hates guns and immediately took it down," a source reportedly close to Kardashian told
E! News.
However, Kardashian didn't try to hide her fondness for firearms on social media in the past. In November, she posted a photo of herself firing a handgun at a shooting range in Miami. In June of last year, she posted a photo of a gun designed by famous designer Yves Saint Laurent with the caption "bang bang." She has also posted photos of herself shooting skeet with her family on vacation.
Kardashian is pregnant with her first child with her current boyfriend, rapper Kanye West.
