Hannibal Buress Jokes About Bill Cosby-related Death Threats

By    |   Friday, 20 March 2015 07:51 AM EDT

Hannibal Buress, whose comedy routine last year re-ignited interest in Bill Cosby rape allegations, joked on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" about death threats he has received since then.

"The weirdest thing about getting a death threat from a male bodybuilder/stripper on Facebook is when you click on his profile and see that you have one mutual friend," Buress told Kimmel.

"And then having to hit your friend up and tell him, 'Can you tell your buddy to stop saying that he's gonna murder me?'" Buress said. "I really didn't think he was going to kill me. I just rather not take that information into my head if I didn't have to."

The comedian continued: "I don't think that's how killers operate. 'Yeah I'm gonna kill Hannibal Buress. First, I'm gonna go to this coffee shop and buy something so they give me the WiFi password. Then I'm sitting down, I'm pulling out my Acer laptop and I'm logging into Facebook. Then I'm searching Hannibal Buress, then I'm spelling Buress correctly, then…'"

Buress was a guest on Kimmel's show that originated on Wednesday from Austin, Texas.

Buress criticized Cosby during his stand-up routine in Cosby's hometown of Philadelphia last October, calling the television trailblazer a "rapist." That went viral on social media and started a domino effect of alleged victims charging that Cosby sexually assaulted them in the past.

"It's even worse because Bill Cosby has the f***in' smuggest old black man persona that I hate," Buress said during his October act, according to Philadelphia magazine. "He gets on TV, 'Pull your pants up black people, I was on TV in the '80s! I can talk down to you because I had a successful sitcom!' Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches."

Since then as many as 34 women have stepped forward to charge that Cosby either attempted or sexually assaulted them in incidents dating back to 1969, according to "Entertainment Tonight."
