A New Mexico shooting range has resumed a controversial class on how to qualify for a concealed handgun carry permit that's heavily reliant upon an online component, according to
KOAT7 in Albuquerque.
The 16-hour class offered by the Calibers shooting range allows customers to take about 60 percent of the class over the Internet, although range tests are still required on site.
The state’s Department of Public Safety initially rejected the company’s online class because it failed to meet strict requirements. But recent changes and updates made to the site have successfully addressed all concerns and the public safety department is now overseeing the class, according to Calibers CEO Ryan Burt.
Burt said he was happy the company has been allowed to offer the class again, adding, “I think we've come up with a product that the state can be very, very proud of.”
