EOS has been sued in a class-action suit by customers who claim that the lip balm popular among celebrities caused their lips to bleed, crack, and blister.
Lawyers for Rachel Cronin, the lead plaintiff in the
lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court of Central California, claim that, within hours of using EOS lip balm, "her lips became substantially dry and coarse, like sandpaper, causing her to apply more of the balm on her lips to achieve the results of becoming 'sensationally smooth.'"
Cronin's lips then "began severely cracking on the edges, causing flaking and bleeding from the cracks, and by the next day there was severe blistering and rashes, causing her to seek medical care on Dec. 7, 2015. Her condition lasted for 10 days," the suit, filed by celebrity lawyer Mark Geragos, states.
After posting photos of her lips on social media, other self-described EOS users shared
their experiences, according to People magazine.

EOS issued a statement in defense of its products on Thursday.
'We firmly believe this lawsuit is without merit," the statement said. "Our products are made with the highest quality ingredients and meet or exceed all safety and quality standards set out by our industry and validated by rigorous testing conducted by an independent lab. 'The health and well-being of our customers is our top priority and millions of satisfied customers use our products every day, many of whom take the time to share their experiences with us."
The egg-shaped, lip balm pod has been touted in the past by reality star Kim Kardashian, singer Britney Spears, and former
Disney star Hilary Duff, according to TMZ.
