A prank at Kilgore High School in Texas is giving some folks a bit of a nightmare before Christmas.
The school’s media department asked faculty and students to stand next to a decorated Christmas tree and record a video greeting that included recalling a memory from their favorite yuletide season. What those being videotaped didn’t know was that a student was lurking inside the tree ready to frighten them clear into next year.

A video of the prank has drawn the attention of media outlets across the country and is quickly going viral.
“One of the students had used the Christmas tree costume for a Sunday school party so asked to use it at school, and I said, 'Yeah, let’s run with it,’”
media teacher Michelle Gilgan told ABC News.
The video was getting plenty of attention on Twitter.
Some of the students were filmed with looks of terror emblazoned across their face. A handful of faculty ran screaming down the hall. But one faculty member refused to take the bait. When the tree suddenly came to life and the student inside the costume screamed, the teacher calmly replied, “Jacob?”

Gilgan told ABC that five students filmed the video on two days at Kilgore High and a nearby middle school, where teachers happened to be dressed up for "Tacky Sweater Day." She said it took her students about a half hour to produce the video.
The undefeated Kilgore High Bulldogs football team, by the way, is headed to the Texas state 3A championships against Carthage High on Saturday.
