A Charlotte Airport collision left one person injured Wednesday after an American Airlines plane collided with a tug vehicle on the tarmac.

The incident occurred just after 3:40 p.m., when the flight from Charleston landed at Charlotte-Douglas Airport, NBC affiliate WCNC noted.

The plane, carrying 31 passengers and three crew members, was reportedly pulling in to gate E-35 when it collided with the airplane tug vehicle.

No one on the plane was injured but it was reported that the driver of the tug had to be taken to hospital.

One witness reported on Twitter that she had seen a woman "on a baggage cart turn really fast and hit the plane hard."

"The fire department, along with medical personnel, responded immediately, and the tug driver was transported to the hospital in stable condition," American Airlines said in a statement, according to Patch.

The incident caused major delays as Terminal E, where the collision occurred, was shut down.

This comes days after Global News reported that American Airlines was forced to cancel thousands of flights due to Hurricane Irma.

It is also not the first time the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport has made headlines.

Earlier this year the airport attracted attention after an American Airlines regional jet struck a deer during take-off.

The Charlotte Observer noted that the plane, carrying 44 passengers and four crew members, was forced to do a flyover so that ground personnel could inspect the plane for damage before it could land.

No injuries were reported and once the plane was grounded and passengers were evacuated, firefighting crews reportedly had to spray flame retardant on the plane which had been leaking fuel.
