Carly Fiorina grabbed the national spotlight during Wednesday night's second Republican debate with substantive answers and a "happy warrior" tone that resonated with the American people and helped her take a second-place finish in the Newsmax poll.

The former Hewlett-Packard CEO's 20 percent put her second only to Donald Trump, who led the poll with 46 percent.

Gathered below are Fiorina's top five responses to the CNN moderators and her 10 on-stage competitors.

1. Trump Takedown — Donald Trump commented on Fiorina's appearance in a recent Rolling Stone article, saying, "Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that?" Pressed on the comment in a subsequent interview, he said he was talking about Fiorina's "persona." When debate moderator Jake Tapper asked Fiorina to respond to Trump's comments, she said, "I think women all over this country heard very clearly what Mr. Trump said."

2. Russia — Trump said he would "get along" with Russian President Vladimir Putin, but didn't offer specifics about his approach to easing tensions. When asked the same question, Fiorina said, "I wouldn't talk to him at all. We've talked way too much to him. What I would do, immediately, is begin rebuilding the Sixth Fleet, I would begin rebuilding the missile defense program in Poland, I would conduct regular, aggressive military exercises in the Baltic states. I'd probably send a few thousand more troops into Germany. Vladimir Putin would get the message."

3. Planned Parenthood — Undercover videos released by The Center for Medical Progress showing possible illegal abortion conduct by Planned Parenthood has enraged conservative politicians, who've called for the organization's defunding. During the debate, Fiorina strongly condemned Democrats and the mainstream media for ignoring the gruesome videos. "Anyone who has watched this video tape — I dare Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, to watch these tapes. Watch a fully formed fetus on the table, its heart beating, its legs kicking, while someone says we have to keep it alive to harvest its brain," she said.

4. Women on the $10 bill
— Earlier this year, the Treasury Department announced it will likely redesign the $10 bill, adding a prominent woman. Asked who they would put on the bill, Rand Paul said Susan B. Anthony, Jeb Bush said Margaret Thatcher, Kasich said Mother Teresa, Scott Walker said Clara Barton, Chris Christie said Abigail Adams, and both Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio said Rosa Parks.

In her answer, Fiorina said, "I don't think it helps to change our history," suggesting that altering the $10 bill would be a token gesture. "What I would think is that we ought to recognize that women are not a special interest group. Women are the majority of this nation. We are half the potential of this nation. And this nation will be better off when every woman has the opportunity to live the life she chooses."

5. Drug addiction — "My husband, Frank, and I buried a child to drug addiction," Fiorina said during a discussion on Freddie Gray in Baltimore. Fiorina choked back tears as she talked about her daughter, Lori, who died in 2009 following troubles with alcohol, prescription pills, and bulimia. "Drug addiction shouldn’t be criminalized. We need to treat it appropriately. You have a lot of young people who are getting access to drugs and then they are getting arrested frequently — it’s just a bad, bad cycle. We need to create a circumstance in which people have a stake in their community—and they have a stake in their community because they believe their community offers them possibilities for a future."
